Basic Editing (Grammar)

This is what many people call proof-reading. I will comb through your work to find those pesky little errors that easily escape us when we edit our own work. Basic editing deals with grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Content and style are not addressed. This is perfect if you think your writing is solid, but you are feeling hesitant to call it complete. You might think of this as the light lunch of editing. Whether it’s a term paper, a marketing flyer, or even an email, it’s always good to have a third party give it one last check.

Intermediate Editing (Content)

When we read our own writing, our brains tend to fill in the gaps. Your readers don’t have that same luxury. Content and style are the focus of this editing. In addition to checking for grammatical errors, I will look for consistency in tone, style, and format as well as logic and clarity. This is what most people are looking for. If a basic edit is a light lunch, this would be a balanced dinner. While this is useful for all types of writing, it is especially helpful for blog posts, articles, school papers, college essays, and books.

If you need some coaching in your writing, this is what you’re looking for. I can help you flesh out your manuscript. I identify redundancy, wordiness, weak sentence structure, and even organizational weakness. I will offer the feedback and suggestions to help you arrive at a clear and focused manuscript that maintains your style and voice. This would be your four-course meal kind of edit. This is a great tool for new writers as well as students working on college essays or graduate school personal statements.
